Cuyahoga is an open source .NET web site framework. It provides content management capabilities and has a modular approach. Currently it works with MS .NET 2.0 with SQL Server, PostgreSQL or MySQL as database backend. Also, from version 1.5.2, Mono is fully supported again. The main goal of the project is to show .NET developers that there is a different way of building web applications than the well known sample applications. Although the project is targeted primarily at .NET developers, anybody interested can download the source and start playing. Code Browser You can browse the source for Cuyahoga 1.5.2 here.   Features With Cuyahoga you can maintain a web site structure and manage templates, users and roles. All content management is done with separate modules. The webmaster can maintain the site structure, templates, users and roles from a secured administration module. Content management is done via the site itself, so contributors don't need to have access to the site administration.

N2 is a lightweight CMS framework that helps you build great web sites that anyone can update. Web content editors can enjoy a simple and empowering web interface. Developers will benefit from a programmer friendly API that makes building web sites quick and fun. Right out of the box N2 brings a balanced set of CMS functionality such as News, Event Calendars, Photo Galleries, FAQs, RSS, Data Entry, Polls and more. All of this and the editing interface are included with the Templates. demo. The editing interface works equally well with the Templates or a custom solution you build yourself. Its very easy for anyone to manage the content of their web site. Features include full control of content and nodes, drag&drop, versioning, wizards, export/import, security, globalization and more. Templates and Edit Interface alike relies on a standalone CMS Library with powerful data definition and database support, data binding and templating on ASP.NET and very much more. A Programmatic CMS N2 is an opinionated piece of software. The core principles are "code speaks" and separation between templates, content model and database. One assumption is that you expect total control over the presentation layer, prefer to develop your content model using .NET classes and can survive without developing in the database or doing every input form. N2 CMS speeds up development by analyzing your code at runtime and generating input interfaces based on attributes on your content classes. Having this in code rather than a database gives you the benefits of intellisense, source control, ftp deployment and greater maintainablility. The CMS library itself is extendable through API events, the content classes themselves, custom editable attributes and other enabling hooks. Behaves on ASP.NET Like any well behaved CMS N2 doesn't mess with your user interface. It just provides a useful set of APIs and ASP.NET controls to insert content data in the right spots. A front controller maps url's to the appropriate ASPX template. The framework plays well in shared hosting environments and with most databases including SQL Server and MySQL (through NHibernate ORM). One benefit of it's modular and lightweight approach is that the CMS can be integrated into existing ASP.NET solutions and ASP.NET MVC.

Is it the black sheep of the family? The redheaded step child? or maybe one of the best keep secrets of Microsoft. Jscript.NET has long been hidden and removed from the choices among the ASP.NET family languages. It is probably the most versitile of all .NET languages and if handled right could push PHP aside as the dominant web language.

Even in this day and age their are people that promote vaporware. They seem to think that they are smarter and more crafty than other developers and seek to take advantage of newbies to the world of programming. Such a project is the Soop Portal ASP project. It is quite litterally nothing but a scam. So if you are looking for a content management system written in Classic ASP don't waste your time with this bunch of con artists.

Back in 2004 and even today web developers that use Microsoft technology are not willing to embrace the GNU/GPL system for open source software. So it is rare these days to find a mature open source content management system like Nukedit that has a Classic ASP code base.

Robert Simpson shows a way he found to get a Classic ASP script to interact with FFmpeg and create a thumbnail from the first frame of a video file without any user interaction or file manipulation. It goes something like this: User uploads a video file to his web server User runs a specially prepared script The script detects the file's type A Wscript fires off a command to create the thumbnail and save it to a specified directory The script looks something like this (see the attachment for more info): Note that this works off a specially compiled version of FFmpeg, so it may not work for everyone. And for all you non-Windows users, beware! I have no clue if it'll work for you. Download the the files and save them on your web server. Then, execute the default.asp script through your browser.

Kurt Harriger puts out a call to Classic ASP programmers to share their experiences, techniques and code when refactoring and testing for Classic ASP. Asp Refactoring is a creative commons wiki started by him and invites others to join in on the fun.
