Movabletype released an open source version of Movabletype 4.1 Yea!. But they suck at creating and supporting a community. Boo!. Nearly a half year ago they opened Movabletype.org again. Since then the only thing you can get there is confused. First they have the beta version of the CMS under the download button on the first page. Not the MTOS (open source) version but the retail version that is in beta! It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out this is just wrong. Secondly there is no community. "If you build it they will come". Hint: You have to build it first you dorks. How about a forum? A mailing list? Links to them? Six Apart is filled with knowledgable people so the only reason that I can see that movabletype.org is in the condition it is in is because they just don't give a shit. The move to GPL movabletype is just PR and nothing else. Carl is constantly ranting about how bad the ezPublish open source community is because ezPublish does nothing to help. Well now they have company. Six Apart better get their ass in gear because they are so far behind all the rest. Looking at the trends Wordpress is going to be the number one blog tool and more are going to jump from Movabletype to Wordpress or even e107. This leaves Perl guys having to learn PHP and other frameworks to make a buck. Once they do that then why should they keep promoting MT? Thoughtbox - So what did you think? |
