Hiveminds | Thu, 2005-09-29 12:24 tags: Community Buzz Things are rolling along with some minor paper work being the only stumbling blocks. Unforseen licensing and funding issues have arisen suddenly and the paper work to remove them cannot be avoided. But here is a status report on drupal module development and updates. Filestore2 has gotten a face lift and some new functionality. The functions were borrowed from the Classified Ads module as an experiment to see if a single module can encompass document management and be easily switched to database content manager. the basic idea is that a Classifieds Ads, Image Albums and File reposistories are similarly handled in all cases. They differ only in what they are not in how they are viewed. So a single module should be able to handle all three types. Just change the node type and vocabulary on the fly. This will reduce the number of functions that need to be loaded into Drupal on start. Some clever use of OOP (php5) will also reduce the number of lines of code need. Filestore2 needs a little packaging work inorder to be distributable. That will be coming soon. We will also be looking for funding for it to be expanded even more. This project will be changing names soon. Classified Ads module is on hold for lack of funding. Someone was working on setting up the Donorge.org site and do some fund raising but the summer months were nice here in Sweden and they seemed to have disappeared. Quick Bridge is on hold until permissions from Simple Machines Forum comes. We were informed that using the Mambo bridge as a base for our bridge required getting permissions to distribute it after. staticHTML is going like wildfire even though it is still only a beta. In November (hopefully sooner) after the students get their grades then staticHTML will be unlocked and distributed in readable format. This is good because we have new ideas that cannot be added until we can see the code;) The best idea is an expanded version of staticHTML that will allow a complete Drupal site to be run using the filesystem only. A sort of Drupal Lite. As of October 29th Hivemindz will no longer recieve grants. They were not much but they did cover costs and living expenses. Commercial sales of subscriptions to the site have been mediocre and not high enough to compensate for the loss. So from that point in October the business model will have to change. Possibly all distributions will be based on donation levels. I, Carl McDade, will have to get a real job also so things may slow down a bit. That's it for now. More after we start getting responses to our inquiries. This article brought to you by the
