Microsoft

No one saw it coming especially their competition. Microsoft announced officially today that their latest OS system would only be released with computers sold under the brand name "Microsoft". Apple computers the company that opened the door for such a move declined to comment. Apple computers when it released it's dual function processor computers and software making it possible to run both MacOS and Windows on the same machine had no idea of how Micorsoft would react. Now they know.

Microsofts Bill Gates could not be reached but a news release says that the latest move was in answer to all the difficulties of licensing and pricing. "The new business model was the only one that made sense in today's climate" was answer from from one noted industry analyst when asked about the news. Computers are cheap and the profit margin on them is very low. Microsoft does not appear to want to make money form PC sales but are using them to do what Apple Computers has done all along, lock licensing and price to the hardware and guarantee a future for their operative system.

Vista II is the OS that the new computers will be running which leaves many asking the question, "Whatever happened to Vista I?" As Microsoft is declining to comment this question can only be answered over time. It will probably turn out that the first Vista required many built options to a computers CPU so that it was not possible to run the OS. This also adds to the reasons for Micorsofts latest move to hardware and OS packaging.

We visited Circuit City Stores one of the few early distributors of the new Vista II Computers and noticed something special about the price. It appears Microsoft is selling the computer for one cent over the retail cost for the operating systems license. A long term purchase can be made for five years which entitles the purchasor to free upgrades and patches during that time. The normal purchase includes upgrades and patches for two years.

Undisclosed pre-sales of the new computer to schools and businesses seemed to have gone well. Microsoft stock shares increased by 15% after the first reports that the retail version would hit the market in the summer of 2007. Most businesses recieving their first shipments of PCs and servers applauded both the move to sell and service Microsofts OS in the new business model. Many have reported a savings in cost from 2% to 26%.

Rumors have it that Microsoft is not done with surprising us. Windows XOS which is Windows XP with built in virtual machine running Suse 11 Linux is reported to be on the horizon. Novell and Microsoft have no comments to this rumor but it explains why Novell has not yet named its next version of the Linux OS. Industry insideres predict that microsoft will try and break the $300 PC price barrier with the next PC/OS release of Windows XP.

"The above is a short story and not actual news or even true. It is a prediction of the future and nothing else."

A bit late for April Fool's Day but something to think about. Good to see someone not hating on MS.
