Okay, let's get right to the point. There are dozens of open source web publishing systems out there. You are having a hard time choosing one or have choosen one and don't know if it is right for you. Rather than give a bunch of open ended information and wishing you good luck at the end of the article. I will make the decision for you. Don't worry about the fact that the list of CMS's used is not more than 5 or 6 in number. If you get curious about the others then try them by all means. There are many variables but here I have just taken them and dumped them in the trash bin and only kept one reason for using each CMS. The list is design to give the best experience with least amount of frustration. The list all is based in the amount of community and popularity available to help you accomplish your tasks.

• One author - Wordpress, Movabletype
• Multiple authors - Textpattern, Drupal, Joomla
• Website with users numbering under 10 - Joomla
• Website with users numbering over 10 - Drupal
• Website with users numbering over 1000 - Typo3, Drupal
• Website with users numbering over 10000 - Typo3

The next list is based on how much technical input and work you want to give and learn.

• start small but grow - Drupal, Typo3
• do multiple sites - Drupal, Typo3
• learn PHP - Drupal
• avoid PHP - Wordpress, Joomla, Movabletype

You see it is simple. No banging your head or getting frustrated by the lack of direct answers on a forum. Just follow the guideline and everything will be perfect. I promise. If it does not work out then at least you've made a choice and know where to go from there.
