CMS Search - a new vertical search engine makes Open Source CMS research a little easier.
We are all to a certain extent, victims of Google's success: With so many sites indexed, doing any kind of intensive quality research can be bit of a chore, as you slog your way through a virtual quagmire of Spam-dex and well-intentioned, but inaccurate, search results. If only you could combine the best attributes of a directory (that is, an index created by an editor knowledgeable in the subject matter) and the search engine spider (that is, an index that is dynamic and up to date)...
Google hasn't missed this need either and to help make it a reality, they've created the Google Coop Search Engines. Users can set up an engine, select the sites it indexes and then set it loose for public use. There's no fee and the creators can even add their AdWords accounts to the results set to help offset the cost of their time. It's cool and it works. This author recently took aim at a favorite topic: Open Source Content Management Systems.
The project, CMS Search, has just launched. The engine indexes a hand-picked selection of over 80 Open Source CMS resources. It includes not only the standard Google interface, but a custom built advanced search functionality and a set of filters that allow users to refine their searches.
