Carl | Wed, 2007-12-19 05:29 tags: Announcement, Google, Review Dropping Google Adsense is easier said than done. First I have to acknowledge why I use Adsense in the first place. I use it because it is easy and if I get lucky and write something meaningful then maybe I will get enough traffic, appreciation or sympathy to nail a few clicks that pay. Otherwise there is no good reason for using adsense. That was the pro but there are many cons to using Google Adsense. 1) In two years there has never been enough income worth talking about. While Hiveminds gets around 45,000 (before pagerank dropped from 6pr to 3pr) uniques a month this does not convert into any monetization via Google Adsense. 2)Google has gone through and penalized sites that use text-link ads by dropping their pagerank. Pageranking almost directly effects how much can be earned by small and low traffic communities and websites. I can say without hesitation that text-link ads has paid out more to small websites than Google Adsense. 3) Very few ad campaigns in Google adsense are CPM so this leaves CPC, pay per click. So Google is getting free CPM on websites that have very little click through but high page views. Possibly like everthing else Google the payment per page views is too high or too low. Is the advertiser paying $1.00 per thousand? or are they paying $2.00 for 500 page views? The fact is that Google is getting paid but there is no transperancy for the ad publisher. 4) The Google terms of use agreement where users cannot talk about what they do and do not earn is very disturbing. It's like trying to increase your stock earnings or business investments without ever revealing what you have for net worth or income. It's stupid and goes against the capitalistic way of thinking which is to talk about money when money is involved. 5) There is no freedom of speech when it comes to Google. You don't find people blogging about Adsense because they are afraid they will violate Googles terms of service. So finding information about Google Adsense usually leads back to the Google blog. Which to me means that they have too much control over their user group. Yeah, Adsense sucks for the little guy. Which is why I am going to spend time finding other methods. I also am going to start a community to assemble information on Google adsense and other products. This is because when you do a search find out anything on Google the search is too spread out and irrelevant. I hate surfing through Google Search to find out what I know is out there is in the way of information. There should be one place where all can share info on Google since they are involved in just about everything on the web without wading through tons of crap. You can never get a decent answer using google groups or even link to them sometimes. Good information is hidden, choked off by google or covered up with adsense monkeys through sales pitches for their bogus products. Dropgoogle.com is a digg like website for posting all those small and interesting things about Google that get buried in the Google Search engine.
