Back in 2004 and even today web developers that use Microsoft technology are not willing to embrace the GNU/GPL system for open source software. So it is rare these days to find a mature open source content management system that has a Classic ASP code base.

Kurt Harriger explains the many reason for investing in Classic ASP as development platform and does well to explain why ASP.NET is not an option for many businesses and web developers. But one thing that he misses is the fact that many just plan like the way Classic ASP works. There is a freed and easy learning curve associated with Classic ASP which is part of the reason that many web developers that used it earlier are now well settled into doing PHP programming. PHP carries with is the reputation of being as easy as Classic ASP but being just as powerful as ASP.NET.

Nukedit. is an open source content management system who's developer has realised the source under the GPL. He has also chossen to stick with Classic ASP. The code itself is original and not a derivative of Snitz forums or WWF forums like many of it's counterpart project that got killed because these indescretions. While Nukedit is considered to be a lighweight CMS the is not in the same category of Dotnetnuke or Drupal, it is a good starting point for developers that want to build web solutions but do not want to start from scratch.

Although there did not seem to be any current development on the project when reading the new section which had nothing posted after October of 2006. Suddenly in May of this year the code author picked up the idea and started making changes again. Which supports my thinking that Classic ASP will be making a comeback soon. The de-evolution of ASP.NET from web forms to ASP.NET MVC and the removal of veiw state makes it almost a twin of the Classic ASP development method. So web developers after getting a taste of ASP.NET MVC will be hunting for an even simplier method for doing fast and dirty programming without having to stay in the MVC paradigm. Enter Classic ASP and web applications like Nukedit.
