According to Sun there will be more advances made in the database software. MySQL is build on open source code and is the defacto database for just about every opensource application on the internet. Sun promises that now there will be real commercial support for the database.
The deal will be finallized in the third quarter of this year and the first payment will be 800 million dollars. The final payment of 200 million will see that Marten Mickos comes along as a member of the Sun executive board.
